Happy anniversary, Heidi and Jim! Hope your day is a special one!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of "special days" (as in "comic book day"), here's what I've got on the list:
Action Comics: Just loving Geoff Johns' run, and can't wait to learn more about the reimagined Brainiac. Johns has a real flair for fixing up badly handled characters, and Brainiac has been badly handled since his return to the re-booted Superman mythos way back in the 1980's.
Final Crisis Requiem: Not sure about this one. I never had much use for J'onn J'onzz, especially his mopey modern incarnation....so I don't know how much I care about his last adventure or whatever this thing is supposed to be. The guy was offed in such a spectacularly pathetic way, I seem to have lost some respect for the one-time powerhouse.
Justice Society of America: Yeah! My favorite title of the month! Can't wait.
Invincible Iron-Man #3: I seem to like alot of what Matt Fraction writes, and I've definitely a fan of his take on a (refreshingly non-dickweed) Iron-Man. Good stuff.
Secret Invasion #4: An interesting (if slow-moving) storyline. I think we need to start moving into Act 2 at this point. We get that Skrulls have infiltrated Earth and are beginning their invasion.
Question: Whatever happened to Dynamite's "The Lone Ranger"? That thing gets later and later ever issue, as Dynamite keeps adding more and more titles. Not a smart business model (adding more titles than you have a capacity to produce) and definitely dissipating Dynamite's "new car smell".
In an attempt not to get bogged down in loads of comic titles I hsve only been buying Superman, not Action Comics. Is this a mistake? Should I swap what I get? Although I'm ejoying the Supemran arcs at the mo, I'm not blown away by it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, Mark!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Action Comics. IT is so good right now! I loved seeing Cat and Steve- it added a special flair.
Final Crisis Requiem is a shot in the dark for me too. I am praying that it is good.
JSA is also very good. I love the fact that I can read about the characters I care so much about.. with a twist.
Invincible Iron Man has been a pleasent surprise for me as well. I didn't order it from DCBS so I have been picking it up on the fly.
Despite myself, I am very fascinated with Secret Invasion. Hopefully it goes full throttle now.
Good question about Lone Ranger! I have been missing it too! I wonder if it got lost in the shuffle as The Boys and Red Sonja have been out like clockwork?
Thank you so much for sharing your list! I always love to hear what you are picking up!
Saranga, so far for me, Action Comics is outstanding. I started picking it up when Gary Frank took up the art chores. He and Geoff Johns mesh well, and the book has been wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem I see with switching books is that James Robinson just started on Superman, and he is amazing.
At this point in time I am getting both books. I am a bad girl, but it is soooo hard to decide.
What have you thought about Superman?
Hi Heidi,
ReplyDeleteI've only been getting the book for about 6 months but I'm liking it. How much that is due to the afct that it's Superman, I'm not sure. Renato Guedues art is really really good, but Superman's characterisation seems a little off to me. Having said that, it really is the writers and not me, who gets to decide what the character is like, so I should quit complaining.
I am liking the litle details -like the new flat Clark built for Lois and Chris and him, and also Krypto's appearence int he last issue. That was very enjoyable!
The last Action comics I picked up had Bizzaro in, who I loathe, and that was enough for me to not continue with that arc.
