Meaty! Heart Throb Steve Dillon Draws Wolverine: Origins

Wolverine By Steve Dillon

I just read over at Newsarama that Daniel Way and Steve Dillon will be helming a new Wolverine ongoing titled Wolverine: Origins. For a diehard Steve Dillon art fan like me, this is exciting news. I would buy the graphic novel "phone book" if Dillon drew it. I am also intrigued to see Way's take on one of my longtime favorites.

My husband, on the other hand, thinks another Wolverine series is gratuitous, and liked it better when Wolverine's past stayed a mystery. For his thoughts see:

What do you all think? My verdict is in before the finished product, so great is my faith in Dillon. His work on Preacher is landmark- the characters required no thought balloons in his presence.

Don't be afraid of furthering a marital spat- we have agreed to disagree on this issue, as we have on so many comic book related issues in the past. It is a safe zone!

This might actually be worthwhile since I hated the original "Origin". It was nicely painted but hard to id characters since they all looked alike and the story was vague as hell. And I hate revealing the mystery behind things. It worked so well in the prequel Star Wars. This might actually erase the stigma of the first mini-series, have to see I guess...

I figure I have to try it, if for no other reason then Steve Dillon's memorable, on-time art. He and Way have worked well together so far, so it will be fun to see how they do here.

I figure the readers who enjoy the mystery of Wolverine will skip this, and they have my blessing. It is fun to have a "No Clue" approach to Wolverine, and it is one of the things that has driven the character.

How much of this is attributable to the movie (X3) and how much is editorial remains to be seen.
