Emerald City Comicon 2007: Getting it Going on Day One

Day one dawned with a drizzle, but we were so excited we didn't notice. Jim and I woke up at 7:30 and ran over to breakfast only to meet Chris Wisnia, his wonderful wife Elizabeth, and their incredibly charismatic son Oscar. They are incredibly nice people and it was an absolute pleasure to talk to them. I would hasten to say that Oscar is quite the scene stealer, with amazing eyes and the best personality I have seen in a baby in a long time.

We met up with our friend Brian and headed over to the Event Center. The line waiting to get in was HUGE and I was thankful to not have to wait in the breezy weather. We got inside to the flurry of much activity. Brian went over to the HERO Initiative booth, which he worked in part of the time, and we got ready. We had made a plan to hand out free comics to anyone that picked up our flier at the goodies table but decided to give free comics with our insert in it to anyone who came over to the table. Special thanks to Brian, who donated well over 200 comics.

While we were waiting for the doors to open we got our first look at Feedback from Who Wants to be a Super Hero. We also saw Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) from a distance, so we were a bit star struck. We also were able to say "hello" to Jonnie Allan, creator of Stykman, whose booth was directly across from ours. There is not a nicer man around!

The the crowds came pouring in.

It was sure to be a great day!

Jim left the booth to go get sketches while I stayed and handed out comics and tried to get people to buy raffle tickets. When Laura (of Bloggity-Blog-Blog-Blog) and her sister Lisa came in, I didn't even recognize them! They both had lost weight and looked fantastic! I was thrilled to see them both.

I was also privileged to meet Swinebread from Atomic Romance. He was genuinely nice and intelligent, and it was great to see him in person. It sounds like he and his SO had a wonderful day, so I am happy about that.

I hate to cut this short, but I will finish day one tomorrow. The couch and bed beckon. Results for my "Get In Shape" contest tomorrow as well!

Before I forget, pictured is the incomparable Randy Emberlin busily working away at his booth. He and his wife are class acts.

Great reporting! I’m honored that you called me nice and intelligent. The acting classes worked!

Chris Wisnia gets around, doesn't he. I met him at NYCC this year, and he is far and away one of the nicest people I've ever met. The thought of him having an equally wonderful wife and child is oddly terrifying: such a family could take over the world in an absolute dictatorship and no one would mind in the slightest. I kid, of course...but if Chris ever does try the world domination thing I'll support him 100 percent.

Chris and his wife were truly some of the nicest people I have ever met. Their baby Oscar is already a complete heartbreaker. I think it may be a serious deal to watch out for that dictatorship.. hmmm... :-)

I am eager to read his stuff this weekend. I am glad you got to meet him as well. He is very sweet.
