Jim and I just got home from the madhouse that is Borders with the final Harry Potter book. It was an interesting experience, mingling with old and new friends. The really good news is that everyone was very well behaved. The bad news is that I have to get up at 8 a.m. and I am going to be tired and bitchy.
On that note I am going to bed. No, I am not going to start reading the book yet. I have a self preservation instinct that tells me the book will still be there in the morning.
To preserve the mystery of the book, I will not be going to any other blog site but my own until I get the book read. I don't want it spoiled for me, so Jim will even check here first before I sign in. Anal retentive- yes. Does it mean I won't have the book ruined? Yes as well.
Have a great one! Lisa, I hope your book party went well! I will be back tomorrow night hopefully!

If only we could get folks to react to comics like that...
Well they do at conventions...

And why is that? Because at cons those involved are going out of their way to make things an event for those who comes.
If more shop owners did things like that, only on a smaller scale, you might see a difference. Lisa at Neptune Comics held a "Welcome Back Hulk" party, when World War Hulk #1 was released. Image in most (if not all) retailers had done the same and heavily promoted it. Turned it into something big, rather than just expecting the book to sell itself.
Fans could do more to help out retailers like this (to say nothing of publishers and Diamond). If we want people to think of comics in a BIG way, we need to make the comics themselves feel BIG, too...
And some better stories and consistant art wouldn't hurt, either. ;)
I can see it now: Justice League Midnight madness at Borders! That would be a sight to behold! :-)
