Where Has the Fun Gone?

Lately with how the economy has been sputtering and faltering, I have been dead serious about life. Between working hard at a job that I like and trying to get as far ahead on payments as possible, I have pretty much forgotten how to have fun. Sad, huh?

I read comics and enjoy them, but it is a momentary situation. It allows me to put everything in the back of my mind. It also allows me to suspend disbelief, which is always a good thing. The bad news is that I have cut so far back, my joy has lessened significantly. I am hoping to try and change that down the road.

The reality though is that our economy isn't just going to bounce back. I don't care who is in office at this point- things are very scary. In our home county, unemployment has soared over 11%. It just isn't possible to find a job. I am so blessed with my career that I can't say enough about it.

The bottom line though is that I haven't just sat back and tried to do something just for me. I want to do something just for fun. Going to see Watchmen next week is a possibility. I would also like to see my nephews again. That would be fun. I have even gone so far as to consider going bowling sometime. I am looking to have FUN.

How are you having fun these days? I know that several of you have cut back of completely quit reading comics. What have you found to fill the void? I am really curious, and I would like to have some fun too!

Have a wonderful evening! I miss you guys, and I have been remiss in my blogging!

I have cut back just a bit on my weekly comics habit, and sometimes just getting to the LCS is a chore, but you just have to enjoy every second you got, you know?

This weekend, after I go visit a major toy convention, I'm going to put up a chair outside my house, with a mug of malt chocolate and peanut butter sandwiches, and just reread every comic I've gotten so far this year. Or maybe use the time to finish up on my Tolkien reading. Maybe you could try that. I myself don't have fun to escape the harshness of the real world (we'll never escape it anyway), I have fun so that after, I can look at the harshness in a different light and be able to handle it with a more stable and un-scared mindset. :) Hope that helps!

George, that sounds like a great plan! Thank you so much for sharing!

I do cheap things with friends! Visit someone's house instead of spending the evening in the pub.
Yesterday I spent the day at a mate's watching 5 episodes of Buffy back to back.
Try your local library for a comics fix, but then again, as you've been buying for so long you've probably got all the stuff you want to read?
Maybe start on novels instead?

Or I spend lots of time on the internet, reading about other people's comics views!

Saranga, sounds like an excellent plan to me! I have been trying to watch episodes of "Psych" at my friend Kerry's house from time to time, so that is a good idea.

I know about the catching up on comic sites to be sure. It kills me that I am so far behind!

Take care!

Hmmmmm, interesting that you added that you didn't care who was in office now. To me that says, oh, some people made a mistake with their votes, oops! And now we have to pay and will over and over again. My dealer Scott and all his pals voted for "The Zero". Basically, he voted to hurt his own business. Good thinking pal. I can't wait to see his face when the new taxes hit. But I digress.
Welp, I refuse to let some a-holes in Washington take over my life. I am working full-time and making more money then I have since the 80s. I am more careful with my money but gd-mit, if I want to buy my girls something or take my family out, I am doing it! We went to Downtown Disney weekend before last 'cause it was my youngest daughter's birthday and I just got back from Megacon this past weekend. My bride and I saved for these things and I'm not letting the socialists now in charge turn everything into doom and gloom. If it ever really gets truly insane crazy in America, my back-up plan is setting up a super-villain HQ in the wilds of Canada and raiding across the borders now and again like Hydra or Cobra. Heh.
