52 PICK UP AND A BIT OF A WHINE

Well, it is truly a hellish week in the sense that I have crappy bronchitis but find that I cannot miss work! There are too many things going on, and on top of that, our phone system finally died a screaming, horrible death. Did I mention that tomorrow is also inventory? Oy vay.

At any rate, I took a gander at 52 Week 1 last night. I was really underwhelmed. From what I can figure, this first one was mostly a set-up issue, so things are bound to pick up. I am still reeling a bit from Infinite Crisis 7 and the fact that there seems to be huge changes coming for Wonder Woman. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. 52 series-wise, I am in for the long haul, as I have ordered well ahead. Hopefully it will be magnificent.

Sorry I have been so terrible since I have been back. I only seem to have enough energy to get through a ten hour day at work and then I go home and collapse. Two six day work weeks in a row is quite the challenge when a person is sick.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! I will probably be back to whine some more soon!

Welp, I got it, read it at the shop. I kept going, huh? over and over since I didn't get to finish a lot of the cross-overs and specials from IC. People were back that had been dead and loads of superheroes either MIA or KIA. It was okay until then last page and then just did a "okay-end-it-here-tbc". And I have enjoyed some of the OYL a lot of it's depressing, like, hey, now that we've gutted the DCU we can start over yet again. Oh yeah, I got Civil War for a buck at Tampa Con Sunday (I went as Solomon Grundy) and still haven't opened it. After the DCU has been leveled with the good, the bad and the ugly, Marvel's trip into the world of liberal paranoia seems not worth reading. I'm just waiting for the words "gulag", "war criminals", "Patriot Act", "WMDs" and so on to be used as buzzwords that will buzzkill my joy of reading a comic. Thanks Marvel...

Oh yeah, you can see the con pictures here:

It is definitely too soon on 52 to get a grip. I was kinda lost at certain points, so I am waiting for DC to clue me in. Hopefully they don't wait too long.

The best thing about Civil War is definitely the art. Steve McNiven is incredible. Storywise, it was sucking the joy out of my day, so I lost interest part way through.

Did you have fun at Tampa? The pictures just kill!

Take care!

Yep, had a great time, everyone got along and no bad moments except a spill of comics off a cart while sitting up the booth.
I finally read Civil War. Yep, the art is good. But the rest....
I just found it ugly and probably the best example possible of what I DON'T read comics for. Just great, my heroes and escape in the middle of awful real-world type reality. All the Marvel Zombies I know love this stuff. Marvel is either trying over and over two things: "heroes based in current real-world events" or pretending it's the '90s and bringing the failed "New Universe" for now reason I can figure out. I also got Origins #1. Found that pretty disappointing too. Glad I only paid a buck for that also. Everyone tells me that Marvel is cutting edge again. I can't see it...
Oh yes, hope you are feeling better...

Thank you for the well wishes! I am definitely feeling better.

I was just reading my new books today, and what was consistently on the top of my pile was DC or Image. My top Marvel pick was Captain America. Along with Daredevil and Punisher, those are my favorite Marvel reads right now.

Take care!
