New Comics for August 15

Ripclaw Pilot Season #1

Tonight my workout partner was squating 315 pounds and didn't realize that he didn't re-rack the weights correctly, so the damn thing fell down. In the process it nailed me in the chest and knocked the wind out of me so as a result I am a bit cross. It will probably just be a bruise, but it scared the living crap out of me. My partner Kerry felt terrible, and I forgive him, but it reminded me how heavy we are lifting, and how much that is when you put momentum behind it. As a result, I am a bit wary.

It is a heavy week for DC books in my pile. I don't know if it is the timing or the quality, but it should be a fun time reading them all. Here is the list:

Amazons Attack #5 (0f 6)
Army @ Love #6
Black Canary #4 (of 4) - really excited to see how this ends!
Booster Gold #1
Brave and the Bold #6
Catwoman #70
Checkmate #17
Countdown #37
Flash #231
Justice League of America #12
Loveless #19
Outsiders Five of a Kind Whack Ass Weekly book
Shadowpact #16
Ripclaw Pilot Season #1 - pictured
Captain America #29
New X-Men #41
Ultimate Spider-Man #112
Wolverine Origins #16

That's it for the week. It is quite a bit of stuff, so I am bit nervous.

I am off to go rest and try and recover from the incident tonight. Have a wonderful evening!

Oh, jeez! I hope you're not in a bunch of pain (at least no more pain than you would normally be after a workout) tomorrow.

It's going to be a light week for me this time. Let us know what you think of Ripclaw.

Woah, hope you're alright. That's not the kind of weight you want going in the wrong direction. Lucky it wasn't worse, & hope you're feeling better soon.

At least with that kind of poundage, you'll have the muscles to lift that stack of comics :) After enjoying the annual, I'm interested to see where the next arc of Wolverine Origins goes.

OUCH! Talk about a wake-up call for your lifting partner....too bad it had to come at your expense.

I'm glad you're okay.

Now, onto the comics!

1. So, what's your verdict on Amazons Attack? I know it's not quite done yet, but do you agree with the conventional wisdom that this whole thing was a bust? (no pun intended)

2. I'm on the fence about Booster Gold #3. I've never been a fan of the character, but there'll probably be the kind of multiverse "Easter Eggs" I love scattered throughout...so I don't know.

3. Can't wait to read Brave and the Bold. One of the highlights of my comic-reading month.

4. I seem to be in the minority when it comes to liking Daniel Acuna's artwork. His stuff for the new issue of the Flash looks cool, though the jury is still out on what I think of Wally's kids. The little "muscle boy" is just a deeply weird concept.

5. JLA: Overall, I've liked Meltzer's run. It wasn't legendary by any stretch, but at the same time I don't get the white-hot hate some people have for this guy. At the very least, he has a good ear for dialogue.

6. Thoughts on the Outsiders event? Are you happy Batman is being brought in to essentially "save" the franchise?

7. Here's hoping Captain America kicks it up a notch this month. It's a good story so far, but I think Brubaker needs to keep it moving in some discernable direction (other than Bucky being ticked off at everyone for yet another issue).

Correction: Booster Gold #3 = Booster Gold #1

Must have been too lazy to switch from the #/3 key on my keyboard. Sorry for any confusion.

No more Amazons Attach... *cringes in corner* make the badness stop.

I hope you're OK and didn't bruise a rib or anything!! That stuff can be dangerous.

It looks like you've got just about every comic book that came out this week! You're just missing the Aspen titles and Killing Girl. I wished you shopped at my store - so far most people are only getting 3-4 comics today.

Hope you are feeling better! I dropped a Cadillac on my leg last week, wow did it smart! Of course, that's a kid's riding toy in a box, but glad I am a big ugly mutt and able to take damage! I've been reading my old books and haven't bought anything in weeks! I just finished "Girls" collected book 1 and wow! Totally bizarre, I really enjoyed it. Welp, Tampacon is this weekend so hopefully I will find some great deals...

Vaklam, I am much better tonight- my bruise is already starting to fade. Yay!

I haven't read Ripclaw yet, but I will let you know how it goes, okay?

Take care!

Eaglewing, my partner and I get a bit carried away with how much we lift. We have got to stop enabling each other!! :-)

Wolverine Origins was #3.99 today! I hope it means that it is extra cool!

Mark, whew! You are good! Let me see what I think so far...

Amazons Attack- still on the fence. I don't quite get it all yet, but Will Pfeifer says there is a big payoff, so I am trusting him.

Booster Gold- I am going to try issue one and see what happens. The concept looks pretty cool!

I love Brave & the Bold. George Perez is the MAN!

With Waid back on the Flash, I am feeling pretty optimistic. The art didn't register with me yet, so I must have been really engrossed in the story. Odd but cool.

JLA- I wasn't thrilled with the Tornado story, but I liked the JSA crossover. I still prefer Meltzer's novels, so that is where I sit on that one. :-)

Outsiders = suckage right now. I am not liking the five week event yet and it is three weeks in. Not a good omen. I do love Batman though, so I am torn.

I LOVE Brubaker's Cap. He is the man. His scripting is some of the best in the industry right now, and I can see a big payoff coming from his foreshadowing. I can hardly wait!

You will have to tell me what you think of Booster, JLA, and Cap!

Nick- at least we know it will stop after one more issue, right?? Heh heh!!

Lisa, I am doing much better tonight, except my chest is a bit sore. Bummer!

I do wish I got my books from you, it would be a win-win for us! I could spend my money there and I know my comics would be perfection and gold- plus we could hang!! :-)
