Three Hot Movies in Three Weeks= Bliss

Jason Statham

Yesterday I got the Entertainment Weekly Fall Movie Preview issue. Several things quickly became apparent as I leafed through it. The first thing is that there are three movies I am really looking forward to that are coming out soon. The next thing is that there are more movies I am interested in seeing this Fall then I was this Summer. Crazy. With that in mind, I thought I would share with you the three movies that I am psyched about.

The first is War which stars Jet Li and the sexy Jason Statham (pictured). Yes, I said sexy. Damn that man is hot. I loved Crank and both Transporter movies, so I have got to see Statham in action. It also doesn't hurt that Jet Li is in it. The guy kicks major ass. In my mind this movie is a major win-win situation. I get to check out Statham and watch some sweet action. Yay!

Here is the lowdown on War:

"War The Movie": After his partner Tom Lone (Terry Chen) and family are killed apparently by the infamous and elusive assassin Rogue (Jet Li), FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) becomes obsessed with revenge as his world unravels into a vortex of guilt and betrayal. Rogue eventually resurfaces to settle a score of his own, igniting a bloody crime war between Asian mob rivals Chang (John Lone) of the Triad's and Yakuza boss Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi). When Jack and Rogue finally come face to face, the ultimate truth of their pasts will be revealed.

STARRING: Jet Li, Jason Statham, Nadine Velazquez
DIRECTOR: Philip G. Atwell
STUDIO: Lionsgate
RATING: R (For violence, language, drug use)" AUGUST 24

Kick ass!! as Cartman would say. Heh.

The next movie I am curious about is Halloween as directed by Rob Zombie. Evidently this is a prequel of sorts that tells Michael Myer's (thank you Britt!!) back story. Since I really enjoyed Zombie's first two flicks, especially The Devil's Rejects, I am going on gut instinct that I will like this one. I am also a fan of the first two original Halloween movies with Jamie Lee Curtis, so I am hoping to see a revitalization of the franchise.

The specs for this one are:

"Rob Zombie's vision of "Halloween" is an entirely new take on the legend and will satisfy fans of the classic "Halloween" legacy while beginning a new chapter in the Michael Myers saga. This new movie will not only appeal to horror fans, but to a wider movie-going audience as well. It will not be a copycat of any prior films in the "Halloween" franchise. Oh! And by the way, if you're counting, this is the NINTH "Halloween" movie to hit theaters.

STARRING: Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell, Daeg Faerch, Tyler Mane, Sheri Moon Zombie, Pat Skipper, Dee Wallace Stone, William Forsythe, Ken Foree, Lew Temple, Danny Trejo, Hanna Hall, Danielle Harris, Adrienne Barbeau, Clint Howard, Courtney Gains, Daryl Sabara, Heather Bowen, Brad Dourif, Udo Kier, Kristina Klebe
DIRECTOR: Rob Zombie
STUDIO: The Weinstein Co.
RATING: R (For violence, language, sexual situations)"
AUGUST 31

The third movie is called Shoot Em Up, and stars the incomparable Clive Owen. Monica Bellucci and Paul Giamatti co-star in this over the top action flick. From what I have read and heard, Shoot Em Up goes further then the average film, which may make the average movie goer upset. It is one of those satirical, in-your-face movies that doesn't stop at the natural point; it goes to the point of no return and stays there. Owen seems pretty giddy about his role in it, and has been doing quite a bit of press. I can't wait to see this movie as I can stare at Owen while my hubby enjoys the spectacular beauty of Bellucci.

"A gritty, fast-paced action thriller, "Shoot 'Em Up" kicks into high gear with a memorable opening scene and never relents. Clive Owen stars as Mr. Smith, a mysterious loner who teams up with an unlikely ally (Monica Belluci) to protect a newborn baby from a determined criminal (Paul Giamatti) who hunts them throughout the bowels of the city.

STARRING: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti
DIRECTOR: Michael Davis
STUDIO: New Line Cinema
RATING: R (For language, violence)" SEPTEMBER 7

Those are three movies in three weeks, and I can't wait! Hitting the theater is a perfect way to decompress and have some fun, and it looks like these films will provide that. Special thanks to the site Wild About Movies for the pertinent information.

What are you looking forward to seeing?

Good picks. War should be kick ass as you say, and I can't wait for Shoot Em Up either. After the first trailer sold me on it, I've been trying to avoid the rest of the trailers and clips so it isn't spoiled for me. It really looks like my kind of movie.

I'm also really looking forward to Sept 7th's 3:10 To Yuma (Russell Crowe and Christian Bale - Gladiator vs Batman! :) Looks like a true, gritty western. In October, it's We Own The Night, and Gone Baby Gone - a couple crime / cop dramas right up my alley.

You nailed it though about the fall having a better crop of movies to look forward to than the summer, which is a sad realization on how much of a let down the blockbuster season was.

It's weird, after the summer "blockbuster" season left behind a wake of disasters or letdowns with only a few exceptions, I've stopped looking forward to movies. I fell from the Harry Potter pew of faith after the 6th book and ignored the new movie and still haven't read the last book. I used to study the coming soon sites and previews like a madman and now, like when people are excited about something new in Marvel Comics, I barely listen or tune out.
And I'm really down on remakes. I'm not excited about the new Halloween except that one of my favorite actors of all time, Malcolm McDowell is the new Dr. Loomis.
War looks interesting but so many action films have been letdowns too.
Shoot 'Em Up sounds good but so did Smokin' Aces and outside of a few cool bits, it was kind of lame and boring.
Hmmmmm, I seem to be pretty negative today. I wanted to see Stardust since I loved the novel and friends have given me good reviews but I've been so busy.
I don't know, guess I am just tired of being told by Hollywood that (fill in the blank) is going to be the greatest movie of the year, season, decade and it's about as creative and original as a copying machine...

I'm looking forward to the aforementioned 3:10 to Yuma remake and good call on Shoot 'Em Up. I'm on the fence on Zombie's Halloween but we'll see. The other movie that I'm looking forward to is American Gangster with Denzel, Crowe, Cuba, Common and TI. Looks so Serpico-style 70s cool.

Shoot, forgot to tell you that the villain in Halloween is Mike Myers. Jason is from Friday, the 13th series. Sorry to get all horror-historical on you.

You are right, Britt. I have officially lost my mind!!

Eaglewing, 3:10 to Yuma looks great as well! I am a sucker for both Bale and Crowe, so it is a must see. Thank you for reminding me!

You have good taste in movies- too bad you don't live closer! We could go to the local theater and throw popcorn at the screen. :-)

The fall crop of movies does look more promising then Summer's lackluster offerings. Thank God for that!

Carl, it is okay to be a bit neg about the movies that have hit the theaters already. God knows I haven't been thrilled either. I am finally pretty psyched up for a few flicks!

I would like to see Stardust as well. I am just hoping that our local movie establishment doesn't blow it out before I can get there.

Take care!

Britt, I had forgotten about American Gangster as well! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Also, thank you for letting me correct my post. Why the hell I thought it was Jason is beyond me. I guess that is what I get for trying to post after a 16 hour day. Yikes!!

I owe you an e-mail BTW, and I will try and get it to you by the weekend. The next two days are going to be hell!

Take care, my friend!

Jason Statham is the one white man on this planet that can believeably kill Jet Li in hand to hand combat.

I mean that in the sense of a character played by each man, of course.
