The holiday weekend really messed with my mind today! I kept thinking it was Monday ALL DAY. Then I got to the gym and tried to start my Monday workout before I figured out I needed to do the Tuesday one. What a dork!
At any rate, the weather continues to be gorgeous, so I am happy. I am also quite giddy because we fertilized our lawn and it looks nice. To top it off, there are several great comics shipping this week!

Wow, we are not following any of the same stuff...
Hey, is that Garth Ennis' The Boys #7 out now? I loved the first 6, didn't know when they were going to come out with more. Every time I see the JLA now I think of 'The Seven' :)
I went on Amazon today to order the 3rd hardcover of The Punisher Max that's supposed to come out at the end of May - and it was gone! Wasn't even listed, but it was over on the UK site. Weird, but I'll track a copy down even if I have to bring it across the pond.
I think I may have to get into Daredevil (more trades to buy :) Everything of Ed Brubaker's I pick up these days I love reading, with his "Criminal" series my favorite comic right now.
eaglewing: Yeah, shortly after DC's Wildstorm branch dropped The Boys, they were picked up by another publisher (Dynamite Entertainment, IIRC). When i saw Mr. Robinson at Emerald City Con a couple months back, I told him that Heidi was one of the many who were upset at the series being canned by DC. He said, "Yeah, I know, a lot of people were upset by that, but it's the best thing that could have happened." He felt that the series going to somewhere someone would appreciate it and not feel uncomfortable about the subject matter (as DC became) was just the best solution for all involved. Hard to argue with him at this point.
And I have to tell you, you really should be reading Daredevil. It is, bar none, Brubaker's best work right now. A lot of folk gushed over Bendis' run, but i was largely unimpressed with the parts of it I'd read. Brubaker got me cuaght up right out of the gate and I have been there ever since. I strongly urge you to pick up his frist arc's trade when you have the chance. It's great stuff.
Tarot? Really?
I am surprised your still getting Countdown, I can barely stomach it anymore. More Trickster/Pied Piper AND Mary Marvel stuff is the only thing that's gonna save that title. Olsen & an the Monitors are BORING.
Eaglewing--we're getting the Punisher Vol 3 HC in tomorrow, so you should be able to find it.
I agree with James - this Brubaker Daredevil stuff is better than Bendis, and if you like Criminal you should be reading it. We sell so well on the comic issues that I'm just going to read the trades instead of single issues now.
Swinebread, I will have to head over to your blog to see what you are reading. Maybe you will have some suggestions for me?
Eaglewing, I am going to echo Lisa and Jim on Daredevil. It is some of the most underrated excellence out there today. As decent of a job as Bendis did on his run, Brubaker went and took it up several notches in terms of great story telling. His creator owned Criminal is also quite good.
Greg, yep. I am a sucker for Jim Balent and Holly Golightly. Sometimes I wince at the art, but what brings me back is that they are truly trying to tell a tale with some moral or intrinsic value each issue. Though I am not a wiccan, (pretty much I am Lutheran) I find the fantasy aspect quite entertaining.
I loved Balent's work on Catwoman so I followed him to his own book. His wife Holly is also an artist in her own right, and I have been impressed with their business sense.
Call me crazy, but I like to throw my support their way!
Nick, Countdown is getting another couple of weeks from me. I haven't been too turned off by it yet. I am waiting to see what happens with Donna Troy before making a decision. She is the main reason for me to get the book as she has always been one of my favorites.
I will follow on your site to see what you think as well. I am sorry to see you hating it so much!
Eaglewing, I forgot to mention the Boys. I have to agree about "the seven" reference. It hits pretty close to the mark!
Lisa, thanks for the info on the Punisher Max HC! It is a great read.
Also I definitely agree about Daredevil and Criminal. It is great work!
James, Heidi, & Lisa: Thanks for your recommendations and input. I'll keep my eyes open for that Punisher HC trade now that I know they're actually printing it, and thats great news about The Boys. As I was reading the first arc, I couldn't believe DC was putting it out. At least the stories will continue.
And I'll definitely get in on Daredevil. Was a little worried about being behind without reading the Bendis run, but I'll use the net to play catchup and get in on Brubaker's good stuff.
Heidi,
Lutheran - me too. I'm starting to think that you're my doppelganger! First it was just a shared love of comics and blogging, then FFA, now religion.
Lisa, I think in a past life we were sisters! It is so cool to have that bond! We definitely are a lot alike! Now if I can just get Jim to make a trip out there.... hmmm...
I already told James that you two should move out here and open Neptune Comics II.
Lisa, that would be the ultimate!! Hmmmm... must think about this further!
