As I have looked around the internet the past few days, one common thread has been apparent. There are a great deal of people signing up for ComicSpace that don't seem to know why they are doing so; they just are. I have also heard the joking of being a "joiner" or a "follower". Then there is Warren Ellis, who signed up to basically exchange "business cards".
With all this non-commital attitude going around, and a bit of embarassment thrown in for good measure, I am curious to know why the rest of you signed up?
The reason I did is simple: networking and friendship with folks with similar interests. I have already been pleasantly surprised to find several people I had met briefly or had small exchanges with on board there. It is a great opportunity to get back in touch with some wonderful people.
Another reason I signed up is to be able to follow the creative comings and goings of the industry. Seeing both businesses and individual creators there is a revelation. I have found so many new sites to go check out. I have also found out about some talented people out there.
Lastly, I signed up as a fan who wants to mingle with other fans. I have resisted My Space for a long time based on the fact that I was worried about the size and breadth of it all. ComicSpace fills that void for me.
That is my two cents. What about the rest of you?

Eh, something to do.
Not that I'm at a loss for activity, but it seemed to be the thing to do at the time.
I would sign up, but they won't send me my confirmation e-mail. Grr.
I signed up because I'm a sheep. A curious sheep. I'm not sure what I'm going to do there because there doesn't seem to be much to do there so far.
Pretty much the same reasons you've cited. A lot is to mainly network, to try and find some artists to work with. To meet others that are interested in comics. To have fun.
Elayne- I appreciate the honesty! ComicSpace is most certainly different then anything I have previously seen available made specific to comic book fans and creators.
Laura, I am so sorry to hear that! I sent them an e-mail badgering them too, so hopefully that helps.
Shelly- I dont' think you are a sheep! Just the opposite- I think you are an innovator. Hopefully there will be more to do on ComicSpace in the future- it looks like they are headed that way.
John- the networking is definitely a key part of ComicSpace. I have found so many friends I thought I had lost, so that has made it worth it for me.
I was thrilled when I saw that you and I were signing up at the same time. I felt like we were innovators!! :-)
Loren- I really like your point about not really having time or energy for message boards, which makes ComicSpace a wonderful alternative.
I am playing with the tag feature also. It is always fun when to try new stuff.
Thank you for alerting the masses about ComicSpace on your blog. That helped guide me over there much quicker, and you are one of my first friends! Yay!
Like you said - mainly to hand out business cards for the store as well as connect with people with similar interests.
I did it to exchange business cardstuff.... that and I find it greatly amusing whenever anyone treats someone with an obvious alias with a resemblance of dignity... perhaps in the far future I will set up a space account with my true identity so I can find an artist for a few of my story ideas.
