Kick Ass Metal Video of the Week: Pantera- "Walk"

For the uninitiated, let me warn you now. Pantera is hardcore, uncensored metal at it's finest. It is the music I listen to when I need to get pumped up, and it works every time.

The band from Texas left it's mark on the music world with killer songs and outstanding musicianship. "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott is well remembered for his amazing guitar riffs. Unfortunately, he was gunned down on stage with his new band Damageplan a few years ago, so his music is all we have left. Rest in Peace, Dimebag.

Left to carry on, Darrell's brother Vinnie is in a band called Hellyeah, whose hit song "Alcoholin' Ass" was heard all over the rock format radio this year. Singer Phil Anselmo continues to battle his health, and I last saw him singing with Alice in Chains at a Heart tribute concert.

To get pumped up now, press play!

Pantera is yet another band I've missed! I gotta say, Walk offers potent riffage along the lines of Metallica's Sad But True, but it does so with more nu-metal sensibilities than I expected from an early nineties band. (That's when they were big... right?) It's really interesting to discover a missing link in the evolution of metal, even if my own tastes are still 80s-centric!

Foolio, Pantera is one of those bands that kind of snuck in between Motley Crue and grunge, you know? The raw power of the sound blows me away as much today as it did back then. For fun, check out their "Cowboys From Hell" album. I think you would enjoy it!
