What Are Your New Year's Resolutions?

It is that time of year again. Time to make well-meaning resolutions and to make a fresh start of sorts. Most folks have weight loss or toning as a resolution. Others want to quit smoking and another segment vows to spend more time with family. Resolutions are very unique to the individual, even if it is a widely used one. God knows that every year I like to start fresh and try to improve something I have taken for granted or let go of.

In that spirit, I want to briefly share my resolutions.

1. Lose weight and get continue weight lifting. I had a great year at the gym this year. I lifted three times a week for two hours a night consistently. I worked out six times a week almost every week. I feel better physically then I have for a long time. The only problem is that I gained 10 lbs. between Thanksgiving and now. I ate all the stuff I usually don't eat the rest of the year. My goal is to get that back off and keep up what I worked for last year.

2. Cut my comic purchases by half. I am going to work on that tomorrow. Simply put, I can't afford the lifestyle of a diehard fan. It is too expensive, and with so many books creeping over $3, it won't be long before I have to cut back to one to three books a week.

3. Quit swearing so much. In the last couple of years, I have really been cutting loose with unfortunate words. This is a must.

4. Find a second job or get a wage increase. Jim and I want to make several improvements to our home, including painting the outside of it. I don't want to have to get a loan to do so, so I am trying to figure out how to get enough extra income to make it happen.

5. Go through my comic collection and sell/donate part of it. I have way too many comic books. I am too embarrassed to tell you how many I have because it is ridiculous. My basement is cluttered with long boxes. Something has to give.

6. Clean my basement and closets. This has become a big problem. I am a packrat and I need to simplify things.

7. Continue to blog regularly and be more prompt answering comments and e-mails. Pretty self explanatory.

8. Do something for others rather then focus on myself so much. Maybe some of the above can help me with this. Cleaning my home and giving comics away may help. I also want to spend my time helping somehow. This is one I want to think about.

Those are my resolutions. What are yours?

These seem pretty good. Not too unreasonable. Anyone with enough motivation to work out the way you do should have no problems.

For me I want to lose weight too - I've been working out for a few weeks already, fairly consistently, and I want to eat more "good" foods and less crap.

I want to read comics more regularly. There are a lot I intend to read but never get around to.

The job thing is an issue for us as well. We have things we need to do on our house as well as wanting to buy a new one, and unfortunately the store pays a good salary for one person, but not so great for two. One of us has to find another stream of income, and since Craig worked a full-time job for three years while I ran the store, it's probably time that I get the second job.

Organize the storage locker is another one for me. We have a locker full of comics and junk and we never seem to get around to really sorting it out.

Spend time helping my mom clean up her condo. She is a very disorganized person and tends to accumulate junk. Just by visiting with her more and helping her keep her goals in order can help her clean up and stay clean. And I know she'd appreciate it too.

Train a new employee for the store. If I'm going to leave Craig will need some help.

Clean out my old files here at home and shred up all of the junk that's been sitting for the last year that I didn't need and just tossed into a pile.

Lisa, it sounds like you have very seriously considered your resolutions as well. I am amazed and impressed at your goals. You are the woman. Seriously.

I am crossing my fingers that we can both achieve all we set out to this year!

Want to excersise more. Not for weight loss, but just to feel better, and have more muscle at work.

Spend less time reading movie websites, and actually watch more movies.

Read my face off (as Duane Swierczynski put it) - books and comics, that is. TV is a waste of time these days, so I'm better off reading.

Write. Get a schedule to write every day; good, bad, or ugly stories. And maybe find somewhere to get 'em read on the 'net.

Learn sign language. I gotta do this.

And like your #8, do something good somewhere.

Good luck with your '08 resolutions!

Lisa, you are so sweet! I would love it if this was the year we meet as well! That has to go on the list. Maybe when we head out to see Jim's folks on the East coast we can make a pitstop!!

Eaglewing, those are great resolutions to have! I am impressed at your thoughtfulness on these. #8 has got to move up in my priority ladder this year. I was so self-involved last year that it was embarrassing. Now to just figure out how to do it....
