Comic I Can't Wait to See: Amazons Attack #1

Amazons Attack #1

Newsarama just released a preview of comics coming in April. There are some amazing events in the hopper, like the conclusion of 52, a JLA/JSA team-up, and a new Dr. Fate series, but what I am really psyched to see is Amazons Attack.

After a drought of Wonder Woman and her Amazon sisters, I am going through serious withdrawals. The thought of multiple titles coming out in April is enough to make me giddy.

Now if only it really happens!

Specs for Amazons Attack #1 are as follows:

AMAZONS ATTACK #1
Written by Will Pfeifer
Art and cover by Pete Woods
Spinning out of the pages of Jodi Picoult's WONDER WOMAN comes the first major comics event of 2007! Well over a year has passed since the events of INFINITE CRISIS, including the retreat of the Amazons to the realm of the Gods. But now they’re back, screaming for vengeance! What could compel the Amazons to renounce their peaceful ways and attack America? The answers will prove useless to a country and hero population utterly unprepared for this savage attack. And where is Wonder Woman while all this is going on?

Written by Will Pfeifer (CATWOMAN, INFINITE CRISIS: THE SPECTRE) and illustrated by Pete Woods (SUPERMAN: UP, UP AND AWAY, SUPERMAN: BACK IN ACTION), this series unites the former Catwoman team for a story that will have devastating ramifications both in the present and all the way into 2008!
On sale April 25 • 1 of 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US Editor: Matt Idelson

Can I just say "Yahoo"!? To top it all off, Will Pfeifer is writing it and the amazing Pete Woods is illustrating it. It doesn't get any better then that.

Are you sure this isn't a FOX Special? "When Amazons Attack!" I mean, after the "Alien Autopsy", I figured anything is possible...

I would have thought DC had enough on their plate in '07 with the WWIII stuff, a much hinted-at revival of the New Gods, and now this. I hope they manage to lay some groundwork before the Amazon hordes rush the gates, rather than just having them appear out of nowhere.

It certainly doesn't help to have had the Wonder Woman title neutralized all these months. They've wasted precious set-up time, and now the new writer will have hardly any time to set the stage.

Carl, that is too funny! I hadn't thought of that. Heh.

Mark, unfortunately it appears that Wonder Woman AND the four World War III specials may be required reading to figure it all out. I am really torn on how to proceed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Amazons do attack without provocation and we don't get the back story until the end of the Wonder Woman and WW III arcs.

As someone who has been very upset about Wonder Woman's lateness, I don't know whether to be thrilled or hesitant. I just did a new post pointing out that DC has given itself NO breathing room to make these deadlines.

It is a case of I'll believe it, when I see it...

At any rate, you make excellent points. It will most likely feel rushed, and the sales will probably suffer due to the chronic no-show of the Wonder Woman title for several months...
