My Workout Music: It's All About the Agressive Guitars, Baby!

Once again my hour on the elliptical got me thinking. As I watched my fellow exercise drones do their thing, I really wondered what they were listening to. Since I live in a town that favors Country Music, I was trying to envision going 177 on the EFX with George Strait on. Possible, but not my first choice. It really made me wonder.

As a rule, I listen to agressive metal-flavored rock during my cardio session and a blend of rap, metal, and bubble gum pop to lift weights to. Here is a sample of what's on my iPod.

Right Now - Korn
Ladies and Gentlemen - Saliva
Walk - Pantera
Points of Authority/99 Problems - Jay-Z/Linkin Park
Always on the Run - Lenny Kravitz
Some Heads Are Gonna Role - Judas Priest
How Long - Hinder
Locked In - Judas Priest
Forever - Papa Roach
It's Not Over - Daughtry
Crazy Bitch - Buckcherry
Bleed for Me - Black Label Society (the lovely Zakk Wylde is pictured)
Bring the Noize - Anthrax/Public Enemy
Machine Gun - Warrant
Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
Monkey Business - Skid Row
Bulls on Parade - Rage Against the Machine
Eyes of A Stranger - Queensryche
Hungry - Lita Ford
Rockey Queen - Guns N Roses
Bodies - Drowning Pool
Breathe On Me - Britney Spears HEH HEH
Sexyback - Justin Timberlake (another palate cleanser)
Walk This Way - Aerosmith

That is a sampling of my iPod. I have 574 songs on it right now, and what I listed above is about one cardio session worth of goodness. Trying to list all my songs would be a bit much, so I just wanted to give a sample. I enjoy the music I have- it really helps de-stress me and makes the work out go faster.

Now that my secret obsessive love for metal is out in the open, I might as well embrace it. Hee hee.

What do you listen to when you work out? What about when you are trying to relax? What is on your MP3 player?

Metal is fantastic workout music. It really gets the adrenaline pumping.

"Enya", on the other hand....not so much.

But "Shoot to Thrill" by AC/DC? Yeah, flick on the eliptical and let's get to work.

A metal head? You would have thunk it?!

Actually that's really cool.

I don't work out, but I love my ipod. Right now it has about 1500 songs on it, everything from Rancid to Ryan Adams.

Mark, AC/DC is a must have on the iPod for working out! I love "Shoot to Thrill" and several of their other tongue-in-cheek songs. My nephews have just started getting into the lads from down under and it has been fun to watch the music get rediscovered.

Yeah, Enya isn't great work out music. Relaxing and getting ready for bed?? Perfect. :-)

John, you have an amazing collection on your iPod. That is incredible! I am slightly jealous. :-)

Yep, I am a metal head from way back. I used to go to the concerts and have way too good of a time. This dates me, but I am an 80's chick. Motley Crue at the Portland Coliseum? I was there! Heh.

Just listening to that music probably increases one's heart rate! That's some rockin work out music. I wish I had an iPod. I usually just watch TV and work out.

Lisa, watching television is first alternate to my iPod, for sure. If I can't jam, I like to watch a program and time my workout that way. It is a smart way to go because it makes the exercise go faster. Smart lady.

My heart rate is definitely getting up there listening to that music!
