Things to Watch in 2007

Happy New Year all! It is time to take a deep breath and pray for the best as we enter 2007.

Along with that deep breath, there are a few things I plan to keep my eye on in 2007. They are as follows.

QEW Publishing: My good friend Quenton Shaw has so many exciting projects in the pipeline that I am bursting with enthusiasm to shout the news to the highest rooftops. Alas, I will have to settle for telling you that QEW is a company to watch in 2007. With several books being published this year, the talented people involved have a lot to cheer about.

Stykman: Jonnie Allan has a distribution deal with Diamond for his incredible book Stykman. If you haven't gotten a gander at the joy that comprises this wonderful bit of goodness, keep your eye out for Jonnie and AKA Comics at several shows this year.

DC's Minx Line: I have stayed very quiet about this line because I am waiting to see the end result rather then speculate. It is in the forefront of my mind, and when the material and advertising sees the light of day, you can bet I will be here talking about it.

Wizard Magazine: With the exit of their top dog and several other employees, this is a place to watch. Will the rough and tumble fanboy mentality be replaced with a more mature business-like approach? I doubt it, but I am still interested to see what happens.

Emerald City Comicon 2007: I have a booth there again to talk about the blog and generally just have fun. Mark your calendars and be in Seattle, Washington on March 31 and April 1. Hopefully I can put together some kind of blogger get-together that should be worth the trip.

These are the top five comic-related things I will be keeping my eye on. What about you?

I'm taking more of a zen approach.

I find that when I watch for things, I tend to miss the more important stuff I wasn't watching for.

I think that the zen approach can work. It makes it a lot more fun when it is a surprise to be sure.

In my case, there are a few specific events I am really curious about so that is what is driving my list. Anything else is just icing on the cake!

I've decided that if I go to any cons this year it will be smaller ones. Big ones like San Diego are allright, but they are too big. You're right, the smaller ones are a lot more fun and you get to actually meet and talk with people.

John- I definitely think that small shows are the best. I never feel like I get lost in the shuffle like at larger shows. The more intimate setting is best for sure.

Have you decided what shows you are going to?

Not sure if I'm going to any shows this year. I'd like to, but if I go I'd like to be actually working on a project with someone, which is a distinct possibility, as I'm talking to a few different artists at the moment. I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
