I was reading an article on the Witchblade series over at Newsarama when I stumbled upon this cover for issue #104. My first thought was that it is an homage to the first issue cover. My second was that she seems to have a lot of junk in the trunk- wowee!
It just almost seems too easy, but I have to ask.... is this an homage or is it gratuitous? Or was it gratuitous in the first place?
With the Witchblade choosing a new bearer, it seems in order that the new would pay tribute to the old, so I don't find that odd at all. What I probably would have preferred is a close up of her face and the witchblade.
I tried to find out who the artist is on this quite interesting cover, but to no avail. Does anyone know who drew it so I can give credit?
Okay, here we go... is this gratuitous?

It's just the usual T&A. Alas, I no longer expect anything else. Nowadays I sit on my porch in my rocking chair, shaking my cane and posting my cynicism on random folks' blogs....
Honestly? I think it is an homage to something that was gratuitous in the first place. :)

since that inside art looks like the outside, and Top Cow doesn't list it with a different artist on the cover, I'm going to assume it's done by Adriana Melo inked by Mariah Benes.
I'm with Loren - it was gratuitous in the first place, so this one is no different.
so standard in the T and A department, with a bizarre twist in the hips so it qualifies as boring thanks. not gratuitous in context is what I would say.

Gratuitous??? You have too much time on your hands to think. This is a comic book for God's sake. Question something else that matters, not the cover of a comic book.
