New Comics for September 26

It is already the last week of the month. The days are getting shorter way too quickly and Fall is here. What a bummer! The only good thing about it is that the temperatures here have been amazing. 72 degrees works well for me.

It is yet another heavy week for comics here at Comics Fairplay. To top it off, Previews is coming out and I will probably cry when I see how many crossovers and mini-series there are. At this moment, I am already trying to mentally prepare myself. As I recently commented, I am trying to focus on mini-series that feature Wonder Woman to keep my buying to a minimum. I don't know how well that will work, but I am going to comb through Previews and see where it takes me.

The highlight of the week has got to be Franklin Richards: Monster Mash. I just love the specials Marvel does that center around Sue and Reed's son. It is a book I can enjoy with my nephews, which is a bonus. Anyone else a Franklin fan?

Here is the week's bounty!

52 Aftermath: the Four Horsemen #2 (of 4) - featuring Wonder Woman, of course.
All Star Batman and Robin #7
American Virgin #19
Batman #669
Blue Beetle #19
Countdown #31
Countdown to Adventure #2 (of 8)- I am planning to look through before deciding on my purchase on this one.
Deathblow #7
Green Arrow Year One #5 (of 6)
JSA Classified #30
Justice League of America #13
Teen Titans #51
Uncle Sam & the Freedom Fighters #1 (of 8)
Wonder Woman Annual #1- the conclusion of the Heinberg story arc. I will believe it when I see it!! Maybe things will make more sense after reading it.
Astounding Wolf-Man #3
Franklin Richards Monster Mash- pictured
Immortal Iron Fist #9
Punisher Max Annual #1
Ultimate Spider-Man #114
X-Men #203

That is the list for this week. It is an ugly one, but hopefully there is a lot of great work in there somewhere. I am trying to keep more optimistic at this point.

Have a great evening! Heroes season premiere at 9 p.m.!!! Woo hoo!

Ah...a fellow Heroes fan! So, whatja think? I thought it was pretty good for a season kick-off.

As for comics, my heart goes out to you Heidi as you face yet another towering stack of comics you're not sure you want. Since you're shop has such bad service, it sounds like you don't really have a choice when it comes to ordering books....because if you didn't, you may not even have the option of picking them up later. My shop usually orders enough of everything, so I don't bother submitting a Previews order form or even a pull list. I like the flexibility of dropping or adding titles on a total whim...without the accompanying guilt of telling the shop guys to cross off a title (or three, or four).

After looking at the list of books for this week, all I've got is JLA #13...although JSA Classified #30 looked interesting. It's got an "opposite number" character in it, and I'm always a sucker for those.

Did you get a chance to read last weeks' Countdown to Mystery #1...believe it or not, it kicked large amounts of butt, I'd go so far as to say it was better then Countdown to Adventure. Check it out, the writing is tight and the art is pretty darn good as well.

Teen Titans ....finally we get an issue where it's JUST McKeever. WOOOOO

I can tell you that there doesn't seem to be quite as many crossovers in this Previews (October) as there were in the last one (September). Thank goodness!!

I did a double take on the Punisher Max Annual. I didn't even know about it, and went looking for info on it. Marvel doesn't even have it on their website in the Punisher section, but I found it on Newsarama. A Punisher Max issue not written by Ennis? What's going on here? The art looks good in the preview, so I'd probably check it out if I find it, but I'd rather have more from Ennis :)

Mark, I loved last night's season premiere of Heroes. I sat there going "damn" and "cool" during the entire episode. I am glad you enjoyed it as well!

As for our retailer, Jim and I will continue to pester them and to pick up what we order so we don't have problems later. Before we die, we will have our own shop. I don't foresee it happening in the next five years, but I could be wrong. In the meantime, I am trying to be more careful with my Previews and not get too greedy. That is the tough part! I worry I will miss something cool- what kind of geek am I?? :-)

Your list looks good. JLA #13 is sure to be excellent. I love McDuffie's dialogue and am looking forward to the fresh storyline. If you check out JSA Classified, you will have to let me know what you think. For the most part, I have really enjoyed the short stories!

Nick, I actually did pick up Countdown to Mystery #1. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it! I saw your review and agreed with you. It is tough because I was going to avoid it, but now I know I am going to want to pick up the next issue for sure.

Yay for Teen Titans as well. That series needs fresh blood so badly!

Lisa, I am so glad you told me that! I am looking forward to seeing Previews now instead of dreading it. Yay! It is so scary to try and wade through the tie-in's as it is, so knowing that it is going to be more manageable is nice.

Thank you so much for letting me know that!

Eaglewing, I heard somewhere, and I will try to find the link sooner than later, that Garth is leaving Punisher Max after this next story arc. Boo!! The guy who is writing the annual is the person who is scheduled to take over after Garth leaves. I am so bummed about this, and I am a bit scared to pick up the annual. I hope I can be brave and then we can compare notes!

Heidi, you are right about Ennis leaving Punnisher. I've heard it as well. I don't remember which issue was to be his last though. He's got Dan Dare coming up, and I guess he feels like he's written enough Punnisher for a while.

Oh thats just depressing news. The one title I'll search high and low on the 'net to buy the hardcovers and just really, really enjoy has the writer leaving. I guess I can understand if Ennis wants to move on, but I think he's been the only one to really get the Punisher and how to write him.

Oh well, all good things must end. Thanks for the heads up on the change, and maybe I'll have to track down this annual and see if the new writer can grab my interest, cause I'll always be a Punisher fan :)
