New Comics for April 16

Captain America #37

Firstly, big apologies to Swinebread. I missed you yesterday at the Portland Show and I am so bummed! I went to see my grandparents and it was a bit of a wreck, so I got back way late! Also, apologies to my hubby and to Kirk, who had to wait around for me to get my butt back to the Coliseum. The show wasn't complete by any means for that very reason.

My list of books for the week is bigger then last week, but still manageable. Here is the list:

Rex Mundi #11
100 Bullets #90
Brave and the Bold #12
Catwoman #76
Countdown #2
Salvation Run #6 (of 7)
Suicide Squad: Raise the Flag #8 (of 8)
Superman #675
Darkness #3
Noble Causes #32
Sword #7
Captain America #37 - pictured
Incredible Hercules #116
Powers Annual 2008
Wolverine Origins #24
X-Factor #30
Lone Ranger #11

Yikes. Talk about a giant step backwards. I need to reevaluate the list and drop a few more titles. The good news is that ordering from DCBS and seeing the total as I go has really helped for future reference for me.

I have to go shower and all that because I was lucky enough to place in my "Get in Shape" contest and I get professional pictures taken tomorrow night. I am still in a bit of shock and a bit mad at myself for eating pizza and strawberry shortcake Saturday. Thank God I reversed myself the last few days!

Take care and have a great week!

Hi Heidi!

Woah! Big list this week!

A somewhat bigger one for me:

Brave and the Bold #12: I don't quite get all the hand wringing over this title throughout the comics blogosphere ("Old school doesn't sell! Perez's style looks old" blah, blah, blah). Sure, Waid's story is probably more complex than it really needed to be, but for the most part, I've really enjoyed the book. I don't care what label you put on it...old school, new school, night school, too cool for school....it's just fun to read it.

Countdown #2: Since we're in the final weeks, I broke down and picked up issue #3 last week, and thought I'd pick up #2 and #1 for whatever lead-in they're setting up for #0. From my (limited) perspective, the whole series seems to be much ado about nothing, since everything boiling down to being essentially a Darkseid scheme has been...well, let's just say DC's gone to that well one too many times over the past couple of decades.

Superman #675: It's pretty sad seeing Kurt Busiek leaving the Superman title, since I had the feeling he had so many more stories to tell. Sure, some of 'em will surface in that Trinity weekly (which I don't plan on buying), but man....I'll miss the guy's take on Superman. Between him and Geoff Johns, I haven't enjoyed the Superman titles this much in...jeez....eighteen years? I like James Robinson (his replacement), but I don't know how he'll do on a character like Superman. We'll have to see.

Captain America #37: Has it already been a month since the last issue? Man....this was a nice surprise on this week's list. Great book, and things are heating up nicely. I'd prefer if things moved even a bit faster, but I'm still enjoying it enough to keep picking it up.

World of Warcraft #6: Not for me, for my son Eric. He's into the Warcraft computer game, so I've been picking this up for him.

That's it for me!

Wait, what? Lone Ranger #11? I didn't see that on the Diamond list. Thanks for the reminder!

Kudos on placing in your contest and the pro pics. Bust a move!

Nice comics list too. Got to hand it to you though for still sticking with Wolverine Origins. I'm as big a Wolverine fan as they come, and I like Steve Dillon's art as a rule, but I just can't take it anymore. Reading through some of this last Deadpool arc, I'm saddened that a Wolverine title with some decent promise has sunk to this. Not to mention I'd laugh my ass off reading Cable & Deadpool, and this incarnation can't even make me crack a smile. Two great characters in one book and I can barely read it. Just sad.

Um, ok, must say something good now about comics for karma balance. Ok, I loved last week's Punisher and I ordered the DVD Blast of Silence just because Sean Phillips drew the cover.

Ok, karma's kool now and rant over :)

Hi Mark! It was a big list. I almost cried when I got the bill!

Brave and the Bold really resonates with me, old school or not. I guess I am a fuddy-duddy. :-) My hubby and I were talking about that- when did George Perez lose relevance? That is just plain odd.

I agree about Countdown and Superman. I am going to pick up Robinson's run, because I am such a fan of his Starman run.

Captain America is just plain fantastic. I can't get over it. Just when I think it can't get any better, it does. I shelled out the cash for the Omnibus and it was worth every penny.

World of Warcraft sounds like a fun book! I hope your son is enjoying it.

Yep, Lone Ranger took me by surprise as well! I hope you got your copy!

Eaglewing, that is what I love about you- balancing the good with the bad! I feel the same way. If I have negative things to say, I still try and find the positive.

Steve Dillon's art is keeping me with the book, but the Deadpool arc has been weak. Hopefully things pick up...

Take care, and have a great one!
