New Comics for February 6

Wildstorm: Revelations #3

It was a long day today. I went and worked out at 6 a.m. and then again tonight at 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. I really can't complain though, as it really feels good in the long run. I feel like I am in a battle against my fat and I am not going to let it win. LOL.

The Super Bowl yesterday was incredible. It has been a long time since I have been so entranced by a game. Talk about good television- the second half of the game dang near knocked my socks off. I didn't have a clear favorite going into the fame, but by the end I was cheering for the Giants. What did you think of the game?

Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, so you local folks should be having fun. (John, I am sorry to hear you have to work!) One of my goals is to get down to Mardi Gras in the next couple of years and experience it firsthand.

My comics list is getting smaller so I am quite happy. Here it is for the week.

Countdown #12
Detective Comics #841
Fables #69
Justice Society of America #12
Nightwing #141- still on hit list
Teen Titans Year One #2 (of 6)
Wildstorm Revelations #3 (of 6)
Darkness #2
Witchblade #115
Anita Blake Guilty Pleasures #8 (of 12)
Ms. Marvel #24
Uncanny X-Men #495
The Boys #15

I was pleased to see that three of the books I am getting are limited. I don't know how to define Countdown. Hopefully I can continue to cut back more to the point that I am down to five books a week. That is the goal.

Have a wonderful evening! I am off to take a shower and then watch Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles. I have really enjoyed that show!

If you had told me two years ago that I would be completely apathetic toward a DC series involving the Multiverse, I would have said you were crazy. Yet, here we are with only 12 issues left of the Multiverse-centric Countdown and I don't have the least bit of interest in buying it. Oh, I'm sure I'll pick up the last couple of issues transitioning into Final Crisis...but from what I read, it sounds like I haven't been missing anything.

My list is (as usual) pretty short this week:

1. JSA: One of the real bright spots of the month. Love the Kingdom Come Superman.

2. Clandestine #1: I love the artwork of Alan Davis. I will buy anything featuring his art, especially when it's his own creation, like Clandestine. I read many of the early 90's incarnation of the title and really enjoyed it...so I anxiously look forward to volume two. If you're looking for a great book with really, REALLY nice art, give it a shot (and get rid of Nightwing, for Heaven's Sake).

...and...thazzit. Hardly worth driving all the way to the comic shop for two issues (especially during the dreary winter months).

The Boys #15? Didn't see that one on Diamonds listing. Is that where you check new releases?

Mark, the shift of editorial at DC has had a profound effect on the readership, yourself included. That is totally wise, more then likely. LOL. Countdown has just dragged on and on for me, so to see it picking up speed is refreshing.

I like your list! I really debated about getting Clandestine #1 because I love Alan Davis as well. It just didn't fit with the whole comic cutting scheme. I hope I don't kick myself later!!

I got you about hitting the shop for two books. If the weather is crappy, just think of how much extra fun you can have next week!

Take care!

gjskier- I went to the Diamond website and clicked on new releases. Then I clicked on the html list that included mature items. That may be why it didn't show?

Hopefully that is helpful!

That was quite the football game. Both teams fought hard to the end, which really made it fun to watch. I wanted the Pat's to win because I just didn't think the Superbowl should be the only game they would loose. But, when it was over, I had to support the NYG's for working so hard, even though they were expected to loose. Sure, it should have been the Packers, but that's really the only complaint I have about the game.

Heidi,

Thanks. I just just might be doing that and not even realized it. It could be why I haven't seen a few other titles.

I'll just blame it all on them redesigning it a few months back. ;-D

Later.

Remember when Crises in the DC continuum weren't automatically about catastrophic events and simply about saving the world and/or throwing the bad guys in jail?

Hell, a Crisis was like a family reunion. There were no threats of "Final Crisis" in any of our heads when Barry met Jay, Hal met Alan, Katar met Carter, Bruce met Bruce, and nowadays it's like your cousin's evil vibratory duplicate may show up with an uzi and reenact the second act of Thomas Jane's Punisher movie.

The writers today are so twisted in their ideas of what a good story is, or what readers should want to do want, that "Crisis" means blood bath, a slew of deaths, the universe will never be the same, the moon gets torn from the sky and your wookie's gonna get flattened by it!

It used to be the multiverse was the excuse to avoid reconciling Superman being a contemporary of the respective memberships of two different eras of superheroism. Now it's an excuse for a different version of the character you know interacting with existing character's supporting casts.

So I have never read Countdown. I don't care to enter a comic shop.

Now for the reason I posted.

The last Super Bowl was a disappointment to me. I didn't have a dog in the fight yet in this case I wanted to see something particularly special. To that end I ignored my typical customs of either A) rooting for the NFC or B) cheering for the underdog. In this case I wanted to see a Perfect Season.

I didn't get to.

Now we likely never will.

Come to think of it, I don't care for the Giants that much, given that it was their visit to Ford Field that threw off the Lions' winning season.

Lisa, LOL! I was thinking the same thing about the Seahawks! Now we can have a rivalry. Ooohhhh!! LOL!

It truly was a great game. I started out like you, thinking that it would be cool for the Patriots to go without a loss, but the Giants had a lot of heart and I couldn't argue with the emotion of it all.

gjskier- It confused the crap out of me too. I think I even swore a bit. The first couple of weeks I kept printing out the list without the mature stuff and my hubby finally realized what was going on! Dang Diamond and their site changes!

Chris, I am surprised you didn't like the game, but I sympathise. It would have been nice for the Pats to get their perfect season, but I really did enjoy the game. It wasn't the usual thing where I walk into the other room during the second half because it might as well be over. It was a nice change.

As for Crisis, it just isn't the same, is it? I keep hoping that Grant Morrison will make things right in his own peculiar way, but I am probably a bit naive in that respect.
