Is This Gratuitous? Vampirella Quarterly Summer 2007 #1 Cover B

Seven years ago, I used to read Vampirella. The stories and art were pretty good and I enjoyed following her adventures. Then came the advent of manga style Vampi and Harris Comics seemed to be in flux. I left the sexy vampire behind during this period and haven't revisited her.

Until now.

Regardless of her extremely sexy outfit, I have always had a soft spot for Vampirella. She is pretty damn brave for a bad girl, and her back story is quite fascinating. For sometime I was considering picking up a book to see where the character stands.

Then I saw this cover.

Now before you protest, I know that Vampirella is a sexy character. I am aware that she is scantily clad and I have come to accept that. What made me select this cover for gratuitous candidacy is the cat fight nature of it all. Did I mention that the chick Vampi is fighting with appears to be wearing less clothes then she is? Crazy.

Vampirella Lovers. Vampirella Haters. Come one, come all. Give me your opinion on this cover and on the mythos. What do you think?

Is this gratuitous?

I'm a big Vampirella fan. When a writer with the proper sense of campy horror writes her it's a lot of fun to read.

I'm having difficulty determining whether this is gratuitous simply because the image is confusing. A cover like this should play up the cheesecake and/or the action but this fails to do either. It does seem to be catfight for catfight's sake, though so I'll put this one in the gratuitous column.

I can't really tell, but it looks like the girl she's fighting is missing a nipple. That little swirl of armor looks like it's in the wrong spot to hid anything.

Vampirella fighting another woman is automatically going to be called a cat fight. What makes this gratuitous is Vampi's erect nipples here. There's already a lot of boobage here, and it's like the artist just wasn't satisfied with that.

I can't help but feel like I made it a bit easy this week, but this cover deserved a chance at public opinion. It isn't my favorite Vampi cover, as I have seen much more artistic, classic renditions of her.

My only problem is why Vampirella is looking straight ahead. I know it draws the eye to her face (or at least my eyes), but it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the picture.

Jerseyinfirst- interesting observation. It does throw the balance of the cover off, doesn't it?

Forget the "missing nipple" on the Queen of Hearts, and forget Vampi's eyes looking forward. . . check out that fore arm on Vamps. . . This isn't Vampirella. . . this is a post-op Transexual. . .

I love this cover, it's one of my favorites of all times. I inclusive was gonna buy a gold edition of it, but I lent the money to my father, due tot the fact he needed to Order Viagra , and trust me, for him that's a real emergency.
