New Comics for August 22

Green Lantern Corps #15

What a weekend! We took two loads of yard waste and assorted other odds and ends to the dump on Saturday and I am so relieved. Our yard actually looks as good as our neighbor's now, so it is a point of pride. The only problem is that it took a half hour massage to get the kinks out. I don't mind though- I think massages have saved my life the last couple of months. It is my one luxury from my birthday presents that I got, and it is worth every penny.

Can you believe we made it through another Monday? I am so glad. My work was crazy today, so it is with great relief that I sit here tonight. My comic list is a bit large again, but in my last Previews order form, Jim and I ordered only regular monthly titles and no extras, so we should be getting back in line. Big expenditure this week: Showcase Presents Wonder Woman Volume 1. I couldn' t pass that baby up.

Here is the list!

Batman #668
Birds of Prey #109
Blue Beetle #18
Countdown #36- why am I bothering? I honestly don't know, so don't give me too much crap. My final decision will happen at the store. I feel bad because I ordered it and I don't like to screw over my retailer.
Green Arrow Year One #4 (of 6)
Green Lantern Corps #15- pictured
JSA Classified #29
Outsiders crappy five week event
Bomb Queen III #4 (of 4)
Invincible #45
Amazing Spider-Man #543- more stuff I am thinking of dropping.
Astonishing X-Men #22
Immortal Iron Fist #8 - this is the good stuff, Folks.
Mystic Arcana Scarlet Witch
Thunderbolts #116
Wolverine #56
X-Men #202
Devi #13

That's the list! I am praying for a good week of reads. Last week I forgot to pick up the Outsiders event and might do so again this week. I can't decide....

Have a great evening!

Congratulations on making through a busy weekend and Monday! By the way, what kind of work do you do?

As for the comic list, I've got extremely slim pickings this week:

1. Green Lantern Corps: Of course!...and my love of "evil opposites" is stoked by that Killowog vs. Evil Killowog-like guy on the cover. This story has BY FAR outstripped anything the meager, low-wattage Countdown has managed to deliver. Granted, they're two different beasts with different timetables and goals...but man alive, Geoff Johns has his mojo back after a rough year getting sidetracked by 52. Woohoo!

2. Superman #666: For some reason it's $3.99...why a journey to Hell (get it? 666?) merits an extra-sized story is beyond me...but whatever. Kurt Busiek is one of the best Superman writers in (literally) decades, so I'm thrilled with just about anything he serves up.

I'm on the fence over the Spider-Man story. It sounds like some big stuff is going to happen, but I also don't like the constant darkening of the Marvel Universe that's been happening under Joey Q's leadership. I remember when Spider-Man used to strike a good balance between gloomy self-pity and exuberant, wise-cracking fun....now it just seems to be way too much of the former.

Anyway, have fun reading your books this week. You deserve a little R & R!

Mark, I am a purchasing manager, so I am half crazy by trade. It is part science and part voodoo trying to guess what people want to buy!! What about you? Full time cartoonist? That would rock!

You have two excellent books you are getting! GL Corps should be very good if the story keeps it current pace. I appreciate your comment about Johns getting his mojo back!

Good question as to why Superman is more money- I think you may be onto something with the satanic slant! :-) I will have to check it out in the local shop and see what the deal is.

I have lost my joy for Spider-Man and I don't know if I will ever get it back. Ultimate Spider-Man is the only Spidey title I currently enjoy. Maybe this is a good stopping point.

You make excellent points! Happy blogoversary as well!

"Mark, I am a purchasing manager, so I am half crazy by trade. It is part science and part voodoo trying to guess what people want to buy!!"

Cool! Tons of responsibility with a job like that...but as we know from comics, with great responsibility comes great power. Er...or something like that.

"What about you? Full time cartoonist? That would rock!"

Yes, I'm a full-time illustrator/cartoonist for a company called "Trend", which makes educational and decorative products for the classroom (in both school and retail channels markets). Click here to check out some of my stuff.

Oh, and in response to your "happy blogoversary" wishes: No, no, no, Heidi...it is YOU who ROCKS!

Mark, thank you for the link! Your job looks pretty fun, actually- I hope it is! You are so creative! I am a tad jealous as I have not a artistic bone in my entire bone. Stick figures are like hieroglyphics under my lack of talent therein! :-)

I have to say that you indeed rule as well, Kind Sir! It is a mutual kind of thing!
